Premonition stars Sandra Bullock as Linda Quinn Hanson, a housewife who finds herself living each day of the week out of order. The first day is Wednesday and she is informed that her husband Jim (Julian McMahon) has been killed in a fatal car crash. The following day she wakes up to find that Jim is still alive, but clues point out that she had already lived through this day. As she continues to live through a jumble of a week, Linda takes matters into her own hands in an attempt to solve the mystery behind her strange experiences.

Premonition Stars Sandra Bullock

If only the producers could have lived their week out of order when they decided to make this movie. Maybe then they could have seen what a stinker they had on their hands. The idea behind this film is interesting, and many people may be reminded of Memento that was released in 2000. Please don’t be fooled into thinking that you will be getting a similar, clever movie. In Premonition you would think that with Linda living the week out of order, there would be some great mystery to the film, giving us one grand scene that would explain everything. Instead we are treated with a predictable mess that leads to an ending that we’ve seen in so many other “time travel” (for lack of a better description) type movies.

Bullock’s performance is alright, with nothing that really stood out for me. The rest of the supporting cast is forgettable, but we do get to see Peter Stormare in non-villainous role as Dr. Norman Roth. This guy always seems to take the sleazy parts (I guess he’s been type-cast), so it was interesting to see him play a regular guy.

I would definitely avoid this film at all costs. Sandra Bullock tends to be part of fairly strong movies, but this one really missed the mark. The story is intriguing and gets you thinking near the beginning of the film, but it doesn’t take long to completely deteriorate into something that just can’t seem to find itself. If you’re finding yourself waiting for a great ending, don’t get your hopes up. The climax of the film is so asinine, you’ll be rolling your eyes for its entirety.

Memorable Scene
During her jumbled week, Linda finds herself at her husbands funeral. Since she was no longer convinced that he was actually dead, she storms over to the hearse, demanding to see the body. When she is informed that it wouldn’t be a good idea because there was a major laceration to his neck, the Pall Bearers mishandle the casket and it drops to the ground. Due to the impact, the casket is jarred open, and we find out just how severe the laceration to Jim’s neck actually is. We get a brief glimpse of his head rolling along the ground.
